The pilot in Sant Cugat consists in connecting the commuters from Barcelona city to Sant Cugat business park Can Sant Joan with a sustainable shared and on-demand transport. Sant Cugat is located 20km from Barcelona city centre and there are more than 15 multinational companies in the area with a total of 12,000 employers. The DRT service will be provided by a shuttle bus of around 20 seats with a journey at early morning from Barcelona to Sant Cugat and the come back trip Sant Cugat – Barcelona after the working day and will ensure a traceability of contacts for a rapid detection in case of contagion risk, with a strict compliance of GDPR. After the commuting trips, a vehicle interior disinfection will be done by the driver in safer conditions.
The pilot in Thessaloniki will test three shared mobility services to commuters: 1) car-pooling 2) ride-sharing using taxis 3) DRT using a van. Employees of CERTH research center will be the massive pool of potential users for the carpooling service while the ride sharing and DRT services will be also available for co-workers of similar ecosystems reaching a wider audience beside the CERTH employees. The shared services will contribute to the traffic congestion decrease in the city of Thessaloniki since trips that are currently performed with separate private cars will be aggregated in one vehicle. In regards to disinfection of the shared vehicles, far ultraviolet lamps will be established in vehicle to be used from the drivers of the DRT service and on demand disinfection stands will be used for the ride sharing and carpooling vehicles.
