About EIT - Urban Mobility

A European initiative to create liveable urban spaces EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Since January 2019, EIT Urban Mobility has been working to encourage positive changes in the way people move around cities in order to make them more liveable places. We aim to become the largest European initiative transforming urban mobility. Co-funding of up to EUR 400 million (2020-2026) from the EIT, a body of the European Union, will help make this happen.

About the project

In a post-lockdown “new normal” world, mobility solutions must tackle critical aspects such as ensuring safe, in terms of health, commuting. Shared transport modes used by people that trust each other and can easily be traced can significantly contribute in hindering the COVID spreading, in contrast with mass modes of transport, where social distancing is often an insurmountable obstacle. The necessity for safe commuting is raised in workplaces that gathers many employees and the public transport connections are insufficient or not trustable anymore. The project develops and introduces to the market a technological solution consisting of a mobile application for shared mobility services accompanied with a data management system of disinfection facilities and users’ profile. Car-pooling, ridesharing and demand responsive transport by shuttle busses are offered as suitable alternatives of public transport; as well as management of facilities for rapid disinfection of vehicles
